In Honor of Dyslexia Awareness Month
October is quickly approaching and as we look forward to the cooler weather and fall festivities, we also take time each year to
bring awareness to and acknowledge what is truly a learning difference that primarily affects, reading, spelling, and accurately connecting letters with their sounds.
It is related to how the brain processes language and is not a reflection of intelligence.
Many people with dyslexia are strong creative thinkers, problem solvers, visual thinkers, and hands-on learners.
With appropriate instruction and support, people with dyslexia can become successful readers and learners.
"As the founder of our organization and a diagnosed dyslexic learner myself,
I deeply appreciate those who work with children who learn differently~
Sherilynn Denton"
Last fall, Whole Child Happenings hosted a community event at the Spanish Fort Community Center featuring dyslexia awareness resources, hands-on building and crafts, dyslexia-friendly books, and tools for children to explore. We also provided educational contributions to local schools.
This year, we are beginning the school year by recognizing a school that goes the extra mile to engage, nurture, and honor how children learn best.
Whole Child Happenings of Baldwin County is proud to recognize
Director Suzanne Avery and the Robertsdale School of Dyslexic Learners
with our New School Year STEM Contribution.

"Looking Toward What Could Grow"

Interested in Helping This Idea Grow?
GrowthPod Academy is being explored for the
Spanish Fort-Stapleton-Loxley area.
As we consider what may be possible, we'd also love to hear from nurturing educators passionate about children and others who connect with this vision and may be interested in helping bring it to life.
Community Interest Meeting Being Planned
We're planning an informal gathering for families, educators, and others interested in the GrowthPod Academy vision to meet, share ideas, ask questions, and explore what this could become.
Meeting details will be shared here as plans develop.
